Royal Barge Procession on Bangkok's Chao Phraya River
Majestic Ceremony Honors King's 72nd Birthday with Kathin Robe Presentation
On October 27, 2024, Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand led a royal barge procession along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok.
The ceremony was held to present traditional royal Kathin robes to Buddhist monks at Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn, in celebration of the King's 72nd birthday.
The impressive procession featured 52 elaborately adorned barges and 2,200 oarsmen, creating a formation extending 1,200 meters in length and 90 meters in width.
Starting from the Wakusri Pier and traveling 4.2 kilometers to Wat Arun, the procession was accompanied by live boat songs.
Royal family members joining the King and Queen included Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya and His Royal Highness Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti.
Hundreds of spectators arrived early at designated viewpoints along the riverbanks to witness the event, which they described as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The government maintained regular traffic on bridges across the Chao Phraya River during the ceremony.
