Russian Passenger Causes Mid-Air Disturbance, Denied Entry and Deported from Thailand
A 41-year-old Russian national disrupted an AirAsia flight to Bangkok and was refused entry before being sent back to Vietnam
A Russian national was refused entry into Thailand and deported after causing a significant disturbance aboard an AirAsia flight arriving from Vietnam, Thai authorities confirmed on January thirty-one.
The forty-one-year-old man, travelling from Nha Trang to Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport on flight FD647 on January twenty-nine, reportedly began acting erratically in mid-air, removing his clothing and repeatedly entering and exiting the lavatory while arguing with cabin crew.
Passengers and crew reported that the man shouted profanities in Russian, appeared intoxicated and demanded that the aircraft door be opened during the flight, prompting the pilot to make an unscheduled landing in Bangkok for safety reasons.
Immigration officials at Don Mueang said the man was incoherent during screening and unable to explain his purpose in Thailand or present adequate financial means to support his stay, conditions that under the Thai Immigration Act render a foreign national inadmissible.
He was subsequently classified as a prohibited person and denied entry.
On the morning of January thirty-one, the individual was placed on AirAsia flight FD646 and deported back to Nha Trang.
Thai authorities stressed that the incident highlighted the importance of maintaining order and compliance with entry requirements, and underscored their commitment to safeguarding the safety of both travellers and the public.
