Singapore Airlines Advances Plans for Direct Service to Chiang Mai
Flag carrier moves forward with preparations to introduce flights between Singapore and northern Thailand’s tourism hub
Singapore Airlines is progressing with plans to introduce direct flights between Singapore and Chiang Mai, marking a significant expansion of its Thai network beyond its existing services to Bangkok and Phuket.
Discussions between airline executives and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand were held in Bangkok on January 26 as both sides work on regulatory and operational preparation for the proposed route.
The dialogue covered important elements including aviation safety oversight, compliance with Thai civil aviation standards and coordination on procedures to ensure a smooth launch of the new service.
Officials from Singapore Airlines expressed gratitude for the authority’s cooperation, and the Thai regulator affirmed the positive outlook for strengthened air connectivity between the island city-state and northern Thailand’s largest city.
While specific details such as the route’s launch date, flight frequency or aircraft type remain under consideration, the initiative reflects the carrier’s broader strategy to deepen its presence in the Thai market and support tourism and business travel in the region.
Singapore Airlines currently serves Thailand with flights to Bangkok and Phuket, while its affiliated low-cost carrier operates routes to other Thai cities.
The introduction of a direct Singapore–Chiang Mai service is expected to offer more travel options for both leisure and commercial passengers, reinforcing ties between Singapore and one of Southeast Asia’s prominent cultural and economic centres.
