Mobile SIM card owners with over 100 cards must register them by this Wednesday to avoid deactivation.
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has set a deadline of February 14th for those with 100+ SIM cards and July 13th for those with 6-100 cards.
This measure aims to curb call scams across the country. Unregistered numbers will lose the ability to make outgoing calls after the deadline, with a 30-day grace period before permanent cancellation.
Registration can be done at customer service desks or via mobile operators' applications.
NBTC Chairman Sarana Boonbaichaiyapruck acknowledges the inconvenience but emphasizes the need for registration to prevent fraudulent use of SIM cards.
Of approximately 7 million numbers under individuals with over 100 cards, only 1.6 million are registered. Among the nearly 4 million numbers owned by individuals with 5-100 cards, only 300,000 are registered.
