Songkran Water-Splashing Limited to Designated Venues and Dates: Tourism Minister Clarifies
The Songkran water-splashing festival in Thailand will not last the entire month as previously announced.
The festival activities, which include water splashing, were initially planned from April 1 to the end of the month.
However, Tourism and Sports Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol announced on Tuesday that only the water-splashing portion of the festival will not continue beyond April 1.
The ministry and the Tourism Authority of Thailand will publish schedules and venues for Songkran-related activities nationwide to prevent confusion.
Big Songkran events will take place at Sanam Luang in Bangkok from April 11 to 15, featuring concerts, water domes, floats, and drone flying.
In December 2022, Pheu Thai Party leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced that Thailand's Songkran festival, known for water splashing, would be extended throughout April.
However, in February 2023, the government only approved the water festival activities from April 1-21.
A Chinese tourist was disappointed when he arrived in Bangkok during this period expecting a longer water festival, as he had been misinformed.
