Thai Envoy in Seoul Urges Deeper Thailand–Korea Partnership at National Day Reception
Ambassador Tanee Sangrat highlights long-standing ties and new opportunities in trade, culture and security
Thailand’s ambassador to South Korea has called for renewed and deeper cooperation between the two nations at a National Day reception in Seoul, reinforcing the growing momentum behind an evolving strategic partnership.
At the December 4, 2025 event marking Thailand’s National Day and paying tribute to the late Queen Sirikit, Ambassador emphasised Thailand’s “proactive and forward-looking diplomacy,” aimed at reconnecting the country globally while bringing the world to Thailand.
He described Korea as a multifaceted partner, underscoring that bilateral ties — rooted in shared history during the Korean War — have matured into a broad engagement spanning defence, economy, investment, tourism, culture and education.
Ambassador Tanee noted that the Thai government seeks to deepen collaboration against a backdrop of shifting global dynamics.
He said Thailand stands ready to work with South Korea on strengthening regional security, expanding trade and investment, and enhancing people-to-people exchanges.
The event was attended by senior South Korean officials, including Chung Dong‑young, who reiterated the importance of Thailand and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) playing a constructive role in promoting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
South Korean officials also highlighted growing trade, defence-industry coordination, cultural exchanges and tourism between the two nations.
The National Day reception also served as a tribute to Queen Sirikit, whose recent passing was honoured by dignitaries and Thai expatriates in Korea.
The ambassador praised her lifelong dedication to promoting welfare, rural development and humanitarian support, noting her legacy remains deeply respected among Thais worldwide.
In calling for deeper bilateral ties, Bangkok appears to advocate a new chapter in Thai–Korean relations — one defined by strengthened economic links, shared security concerns and cultural solidarity at a time of global uncertainty and regional shifts.
