Thailand and South Korea Enhance Nuclear Cooperation
New agreements strengthen collaboration on nuclear technology and space exploration.
Thailand and South Korea have formalised an agreement aimed at enhancing cooperation in the field of nuclear technology and related sectors.
This development occurred during a meeting on March 21 between Thailand's Higher Education Minister Supamas Isarabhakdi and South Korean Ambassador Park Yongmin.
Minister Supamas Isarabhakdi stated that this agreement reinforces existing collaborations between the governments and various relevant agencies.
She expressed optimism that it will facilitate expanded cooperation, particularly in the research and development of small modular reactors (SMRs) as a clean energy alternative.
Ambassador Park Yongmin underlined South Korea’s dedication to assisting Thailand through initiatives focused on knowledge exchange, technology sharing, and expert collaboration in several areas, including nuclear energy, nuclear safety, nuclear fusion technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and space technology.
In addition, the Ambassador noted ongoing partnerships between the Thai Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) to explore the feasibility of a spaceport and satellite development initiatives within Thailand.
