Thailand Launches New Visa Package to Attract Tourists and Remote Workers

Expanded entry options aim to strengthen Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai as hubs for global travellers and digital professionals
Thailand has introduced a new visa package designed to attract both international tourists and remote workers, reinforcing its position as one of Asia’s most dynamic travel and lifestyle destinations.

The updated framework expands entry and stay options for visitors seeking extended stays in Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai, three cities that have emerged as key centres for tourism, entrepreneurship and digital work.

Officials said the initiative reflects Thailand’s strategic push to align with global travel trends, particularly the rapid growth of location-independent professionals and long-stay visitors.

The visa package streamlines application procedures, extends permissible durations of stay under certain categories and offers clearer pathways for remote workers employed by overseas companies.

Bangkok remains a major regional business hub, while Phuket continues to attract high-end tourism and international residents.

Chiang Mai, long known for its digital nomad community, is expected to benefit significantly from the policy shift.

Authorities believe the enhanced visa framework will encourage higher-value spending, support local service industries and strengthen Thailand’s reputation as a welcoming base for international talent.

The government has paired the visa adjustments with improvements in digital infrastructure and immigration processing systems.

Online platforms have been upgraded to facilitate applications and renewals, while immigration offices are coordinating to manage increased demand efficiently.

Officials emphasised that security and compliance standards remain firmly in place, with background checks and documentation requirements maintained to safeguard national interests.

Tourism analysts say the move comes at a time when countries worldwide are competing to attract remote workers and long-stay visitors.

By offering flexible visa conditions alongside strong lifestyle appeal, Thailand is positioning itself to capture a growing segment of globally mobile professionals seeking a balance of work and leisure in Southeast Asia.
