Thailand has implemented extensive measures to combat illegal online content and fraudulent activities, demonstrating a strong commitment to securing its digital environment and protecting its citizens.
Escalation in Blocking Illicit Online Platforms
Between October 2024 and February 2025, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES) blocked access to 80,669 illicit social media pages, websites, and URLs, averaging 16,133 blocks per month.
This represents a 1.508-fold increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, which saw 53,466 blocks, averaging 10,693 per month.
The breakdown of blocked content includes:
- Online Gambling: 31,832 items, a 1.3-fold increase.
- Online Fraud/Misinformation: 21,939 items, a 0.8769-fold decrease.

Establishment of the Anti-Online Scam Operation Center (AOC)
In response to escalating cybercrime threats, Thailand established the Anti-Online Scam Operation Center (AOC) in 2023. The AOC operates as a centralized hub equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and big data analytics to proactively identify and counteract online scams.
This initiative streamlines the reporting and remediation process for victims and enhances the government's ability to pursue cybercriminals.
International Collaboration to Dismantle Scam Operations
Thailand has collaborated with neighboring countries to tackle transnational online scam operations.
Coordinated efforts between Thailand, Myanmar, and China have led to the rescue of approximately 7,000 individuals from illegal scam centers in Myanmar.
These centers, often located in border regions, coerced victims into participating in fraudulent online schemes under threat of violence.
The rescued individuals, primarily foreign nationals, are currently awaiting repatriation.
Technological Innovations in Cybersecurity
The Thai government has established applications to help safeguard individuals against internet scammers, fake news, and financial fraud.
For instance, the 'Pao Tang' app, developed in collaboration with the state-owned Krung Thai Bank, serves as an online scam and disinformation warning system.
The app not only provides financial services but also disseminates information to protect users from potential scams.
Public Awareness and Education Initiatives
In addition to technological and legislative measures, the DES Ministry is actively raising public awareness about the tactics employed by scammers.
This includes educating the public on how to identify and avoid falling victim to online fraud.
Such initiatives are crucial in fostering a well-informed populace capable of navigating the digital landscape safely.
Through a combination of technological innovation, legislative action, international collaboration, and public education, Thailand continues to strengthen its defenses against illegal online content and fraudulent activities, ensuring a safer digital environment for its citizens.
