Thailand's Education Ministry Supports Overseas Scholarship Initiative for Youth

New 'One District One Scholarship' summer camp program aims to enhance students' overseas educational experiences.
The Ministry of Education in Thailand has officially endorsed the 'One District One Scholarship' (Odos) initiative, encouraging Mathayom 4 (Grade 10) students across the country to participate in a newly launched overseas summer camp program.

The program was unveiled on March 22, 2025, with the aim of providing students with international experiences and preparing them for future educational opportunities under the Odos scholarship framework.

Siripong Angkasakulkiat, assistant to Education Minister Pol Gen Permpoon Chidchob, outlined the objectives of the summer camp, stating that it seeks to alleviate challenges faced by scholarship recipients who previously struggled to adapt to foreign educational systems due to language and cultural barriers.

The initiative is designed to equip students with the skills necessary for academic success abroad.

The Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, emphasized that the Odos summer camp is a six-week program aimed at broadening students' perspectives and fostering personal development.

This program specifically targets Mathayom 4 students aged up to 19, with applications open from March 24 to May 16 through the Tang Rat application.

A total of 928 districts, including Bangkok, fall under the eligibility criteria for participation.

Organizational responsibility for the Odos scholarships, including the summer camp, is shared between the Equitable Education Fund (EEF) and the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC).

Although the Education Ministry will not directly lead the initiative this year, it has pledged to provide comprehensive support to ensure its success.

The initiative primarily aims to enhance opportunities for Thai youth to pursue studies in fields pertinent to their interests, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Funding for the project is sourced from the Government Lottery Office, with oversight provided by the EEF for scholarship distributions.
