EU-ASEAN Partnership Eyes Green Transition Through Global Gateway Strategy
New EUR 60 million package aims to support sustainable investments in the region
The European Union (EU) and ASEAN are focusing on opportunities and challenges in ASEAN's green transition, discussed during the Partners' Dialogue forum with the EU Delegation to ASEAN. The forum, hosted by EU Ambassador Sujiro Seam, highlighted the transformative potential of the Global Gateway strategy, which aims to drive sustainable development across key sectors like digitalization, energy, and transport.
Launched in 2021, the Global Gateway strategy seeks to mobilize EUR 300 billion globally, with a new EUR 60 million package targeting connectivity projects in ASEAN. These projects will enhance trade, investment, higher education, and energy connectivity, contributing to the region's green transition and stronger supply chains.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting sustainable infrastructure projects in ASEAN, focusing on energy efficiency, digitalization, and resilient transport systems to foster both climate action and economic growth.
