Solar Zenith in Thailand: Bangkokians Prepare for Direct Sunlight Overhead on April 26
On April 26, 2023, Bangkokians and residents of Yala's Betong district in Thailand can expect to experience a unique astronomical phenomenon.
The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) announced that the solar zenith, where the sun is directly overhead, occurred at 12.19pm in Betong.
This event can only happen in locations between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, and it typically occurs twice a year, providing the least amount of shadows.
The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) announced that the solar zenith, when the sun is directly overhead, occurs twice a year in Thailand.
This year, the solar zenith will take place in various parts of Thailand on different dates: Krabi (April 10), Phang Nga (April 11), Rayong (April 23), Bangkok (April 26), Kanchanaburi (April 27), Prachinburi (April 27), Ayutthaya (April 28), Si Sa Ket (May 1), Loei (May 9), and Chiang Rai (May 19).
NARIT noted that having the sun directly overhead does not necessarily result in extreme heat, as other factors like rain and clouds can influence the temperature.
