Thai Airways' 2021 Layoffs Deemed Lawful by Court Ruling
Former employees' petition dismissed as court upholds airline's termination procedures
A group of former Thai Airways employees had filed a petition with the Central Bankruptcy Court, alleging that their employment terminations in 2021 were unlawful and seeking to invalidate the terminations.
However, the court has ruled in favor of the airline, affirming that the layoffs were conducted lawfully.
Thai Airways stated that it followed all applicable laws, regulations, and internal rules during the termination process, ensuring full payment of severance and legal entitlements to affected employees.
The company also noted that it had honored all court rulings related to disputes arising from the terminations without exception.
In a statement submitted to the Central Bankruptcy Court on April 25, 2025, Thai Airways explained that all disputes regarding the employment terminations had been previously adjudicated by the Labor Court and reviewed by the Supreme Court, with final rulings confirming the lawfulness of the terminations.
The company further clarified that the attempt to refile claims already conclusively adjudicated constitutes an abuse of rights and duplicative litigation, which is prohibited by law.
