Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn sentenced to death for poisoning a friend with cyanide, marking the start of her murder trials.
Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, 36, a suspected serial killer involved in over a dozen murders, was convicted and sentenced to death by a Bangkok court on Wednesday. She was found guilty of poisoning her friend, Siriporn Kanwong, with cyanide. The two women had met for a Buddhist ritual in April 2023, but shortly after, Siriporn collapsed and died. Investigators later discovered traces of cyanide in her body, linking Sararat to unsolved poisonings dating back to 2015.
Sararat, an online gambling addict, is accused of swindling money from her victims before killing them with cyanide. Police revealed she lured victims to ingest poisoned herb capsules, after borrowing large sums from them. Sararat faces 13 more murder trials and over 80 charges in total. Her ex-husband and former lawyer have also been sentenced for their roles in the killing. This case is one of Thailand's most notorious criminal cases involving serial killings.
