The cabinet of Thailand has greenlit the second phase of the high-speed rail initiative that aims to connect the nation with China through Laos. Construction is slated to begin in 2025, with a completion date set for 2030.
This 357-kilometer stretch will link Nakhon Ratchasima to Nong Khai, introducing five additional stations and a logistics hub designed to streamline freight transportation between Thailand’s rail system and the China-Laos Railway. The hub in Nong Khai will play a pivotal role as a cargo transfer center, optimizing trade among the three nations.
With the cabinet's approval obtained, the project will proceed in line with legal and regulatory protocols. This advancement signifies a significant milestone in Thailand’s ambitions to improve regional connectivity and bolster economic relations with China and Laos.
