Thailand Welcomes 3.7 Million Foreign Tourists in January, Marking 22% Growth
China, Malaysia, and Russia lead arrivals as Thailand raises its 2024 tourism target to 40 million visitors.
Thailand recorded 3.709 million foreign tourist arrivals in January 2024, representing a 22.2% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Tourism and Sports Ministry.
China led the list of visitors with 662,779 arrivals, followed by Malaysia with 443,015 and Russia with 255,920.
Other top source countries included South Korea (209,065), India (185,809), the United Kingdom (121,529), the United States (118,038), Taiwan (116,779), Germany (112,828), and France (110,515).
January's total surpassed the monthly average of 3.33 million required to meet the government’s target of 40 million visitors for 2024. In response to strong growth, Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong announced that 2025 will be designated as 'Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025.'
The Thai government has increased its annual tourism goal from 39 million to 40 million visitors, with an expectation of generating 3.5 trillion baht in revenue from international tourism this year.
