Bangkok Launches Art-Infused Sports Facility to Enhance Urban Youth Recreation
Public-private collaboration revitalizes Phaya Thai sports ground with community-driven design
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), in collaboration with private sector partners, has unveiled a newly renovated sports facility in the Phaya Thai district, aiming to provide accessible recreational spaces for urban youth.
The project, named "Dream Stadium: Paint Your Dream Space," is part of a broader initiative to integrate art and sports in community development.
The sports ground, located behind the Phahon Yothin expressway toll booth in Soi Phra Nang, has been transformed into a multi-purpose facility accommodating futsal, sepak takraw, and basketball.
The renovation was spearheaded by Think Curve, in partnership with Big One Group, and featured artistic contributions from renowned Thai artists ALEX FACE, MXRNIES, and the DREAMGRAFF team led by KANAET.
Community members participated in workshops to paint and decorate the facility, fostering a sense of ownership and engagement.
This initiative aligns with BMA's policy to enhance public spaces across Bangkok, addressing the scarcity of quality recreational areas for children in densely populated urban communities.
Governor Chadchart Sittipunt highlighted the importance of such projects in promoting physical and mental well-being among residents.
To date, BMA has improved two hundred and four sports grounds and is progressing towards its goal of establishing five hundred parks under the "Fifteen-Minute Parks" initiative, ensuring that green spaces are accessible within a fifteen-minute walk for all residents.
The Dream Stadium project builds upon previous efforts that incorporated licensed artwork from the Japanese manga series Captain Tsubasa to revitalize community sports fields.
Past renovations have taken place in various locations, including Don Mueang, Kudi Chin, Huai Khwang, Chuea Ploeng, Khlong Six Housing Community, and the Uea Athon Setthakit Three futsal field.
The current project marks a continuation of these efforts, emphasizing community involvement and the fusion of art and sports to create vibrant public spaces.
