Paetongtarn Assumes Office as Thailand's Culture Minister, Aiming for Cultural Transformation
Newly appointed Culture Minister Paetongtarn outlines her vision to strengthen Thailand's cultural sector and enhance soft power.
Paetongtarn Wongthayasathien has officially commenced her role as Thailand's Culture Minister, receiving a warm welcome from ministry executives and key government officials.
Among those present at the event were Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Higher Education Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, and Deputy Education Minister Linthiporn Varinwatchararoj.
In her introductory remarks, Paetongtarn expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve in this position, highlighting that despite stepping down temporarily from her role as Prime Minister, she is excited to contribute to the Ministry of Culture.
She conveyed her desire to foster collaboration across various sectors and emphasized her vision of positioning the Ministry of Culture as a significant national force, akin to the role it plays in South Korea.
Paetongtarn referred to insights gained during her discussions with the South Korean ambassador, elaborating on her belief that the Ministry of Culture should not only focus on cultural preservation but also act as a catalyst for economic growth.
She underscored the importance of implementing soft power policies that could generate new sources of income for the public.
“I want the Ministry of Culture to be a driving force in creating new opportunities and professions for the Thai people,” Paetongtarn stated, reiterating her commitment to enhancing cultural initiatives that can contribute to national development.
Her appointment is seen as part of a broader strategy to elevate Thailand's cultural prominence on the global stage.
