Thailand’s Oil Product Sales Stay Above One Million Barrels Per Day in January
Steady domestic fuel demand keeps Thailand’s refined oil consumption above the one-million-barrel-per-day threshold at the start of the year
Thailand’s domestic sales of refined petroleum products remained above one million barrels per day in January, reflecting resilient demand for transportation and industrial fuels despite shifting global energy conditions.
Energy market data show that total oil product consumption in the country continued to hold above the one-million-barrel-per-day level during the first month of the year, supported primarily by steady demand for diesel and gasoline.
These fuels remain the backbone of Thailand’s transportation sector, which accounts for a large share of national energy use.
Diesel consumption remained the largest component of overall petroleum demand, driven by commercial transport, logistics and agricultural activity.
Gasoline use also stayed firm as private vehicle travel and domestic mobility continued to recover and expand.
Jet fuel demand contributed additional support to overall sales volumes.
Thailand’s aviation sector has been gradually rebuilding in recent years as tourism and international travel strengthen, boosting demand for aviation fuel supplied through the country’s refineries and import channels.
The figures underline Thailand’s position as one of Southeast Asia’s largest energy consumers and an important hub for refined petroleum products in the region.
The country maintains substantial refining capacity and continues to rely on a combination of domestic production and imports to meet its growing fuel needs.
Thailand’s downstream oil sector has been steadily recovering following pandemic-era disruptions, with domestic fuel consumption returning to pre-pandemic levels as economic activity and travel resumed.
Government infrastructure development, expanding logistics networks and industrial output have also contributed to sustained fuel demand.
Analysts say that while Thailand’s long-term energy strategy increasingly emphasizes renewable power and electric vehicles, petroleum products will continue to play a central role in the country’s transportation and industrial sectors for the foreseeable future.
Maintaining demand above the one-million-barrel-per-day threshold in January suggests that domestic economic activity and mobility remain strong, even as global energy markets face uncertainty from geopolitical tensions and evolving supply conditions.
