The Department of Business Development is intensifying support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their shift to e-commerce, anticipating market growth to 750 billion baht by 2025.
According to director-general Auramon Supthaweethum, Thailand's e-commerce market is projected to reach nearly 700 billion baht in 2024, up from 634 billion last year.
This growth is driven by increased business registrations and higher consumer adoption of online retail.
In 2024, 7,393 e-commerce businesses registered with capital of 43.7 billion baht, a significant rise from last year's 1,713 entities with 2.27 billion baht in capital.
The department has launched several projects, including 'Smart Trader Online', now in its fourth year, aimed at equipping new entrepreneurs with online trading knowledge and modern marketing tools like affiliate marketing.
Collaborating with platforms like TikTok Shop, Shopee, Lazada, and NocNoc, the department offers digital training courses to help entrepreneurs enhance their skills and performance.
Emphasizing local economic recovery post-pandemic, the 'Smart Local' concept boosts community products in provinces such as Phayao, Maha Sarakham, and Nakhon Si Thammarat, with plans to expand to other tourist areas to stimulate the local economy.
