Illegal Villas on Koh Samui Closed, Foreign Tenants Evicted

Authorities have shut down 21 illegal villas on Koh Samui, ordering tenants to leave. The properties, located on Khao Ma Ngaen mountain in Bo Phut, were part of 46 villas constructed without permits. Among the tenants was a Frenchman who had a one-year lease and paid one dollar per month.
Authorities have taken action against 21 illegally constructed villas on Koh Samui, ordering tenants to vacate.

Notices were posted by municipal, military, and ombudsman's representatives on Tuesday, targeting properties on Khao Ma Ngaen mountain in Bo Phut.

These villas, part of a larger group of 46 built without permits by three companies, encroached on the mountainside.

Among the tenants were three foreign nationals, including a Frenchman who paid a monthly rent of one dollar for his one-year lease.

The other villas, currently unoccupied, were being advertised for lease.

Environment protection chief Col Dusit Kesornkaeo confirmed the closures, citing the absence of appeals against the original orders.
