Thailand and Myanmar Unite for Flood Management Amid Severe Weather and Economic Boost from Malaysian Tourists

Thailand and Myanmar collaborate on water management while severe weather alerts and floods impact various regions, prompting significant relief efforts. Economic boost seen in Southern Thailand from Malaysian tourists during long weekend.
Thailand and Myanmar are tackling water management challenges together, particularly flood control and sustainability, as announced by Thailand's Foreign Affairs Minister Maris Sangiampongsa after discussions with Myanmar's U Than Swe.

In related news, the Thailand Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather alert with isolated heavy rains expected nationwide, especially in the East and South, cautioning about flash floods and advising small boats to stay ashore.

Already seeing this impact, Phuket's Mueang district experienced flooding due to heavy rains and rising sea levels on September 17, prompting officials to advise residents near the Bang Yai canal to move their belongings to higher ground.

To support those affected, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced financial aid up to 230,000 baht per flood-affected household, backed by a substantial three billion baht budget allocation for flood relief efforts.

Showing solidarity, ONE athletes are auctioning personal items and donating money to flood victims in Chiang Rai, with notable contributions from Seksan A. Kwan Muang and Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

Shifting to economic news, the influx of over 100,000 Malaysian tourists to Southern Thailand during a long weekend has significantly boosted the local economy by one billion baht, particularly benefitting Hat Yai and its surrounding areas.
