Most Electric Cables in Thailand Fail International Safety Standards
Majority of Thai Electric Cables Are Substandard, Posing Safety Risks
On Tuesday, Industry Minister Akanat Promphan reported that most electric cable brands sold in Thailand do not meet international safety standards.
Out of the 78 brands inspected, only 20 were compliant with the ISO standards.
Feedback from the public highlighted the use of thin copper wires in many brands, which risk overheating, causing fires or short circuits.
In response, Akanat directed the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) to take legal actions against non-compliant manufacturers and importers.
These measures include filing police complaints and revoking licenses to protect life and property from the dangers of substandard electric cables.
