Nine new airlines are set to debut in Thailand in 2024 as the country anticipates a tourism surge, with the Thai government aiming for 40 million foreign visitors—a significant jump from the 27 million in 2023.
With tourism nearly rebounding from the COVID-19 downturn, eased travel restrictions and reopened borders are driving optimism.
The airlines gearing up for launch include:
1. Asian Aerospace Service
2. Siam Seaplane
3. Really Cool Air
4. Avanti Air Starter
5. Landarch Airlines
6. Bangkok Helicopter Services
7. Pattaya Airways
8. Asia Atlantic Airlines
9. P80 air
While some of these airlines will serve regional or domestic routes or offer flights with limited seating, they collectively contribute to expanding Thailand's aviation capacity, stimulating tourism, and promoting international connections.
The Thai government is backing these airlines with financial support, anticipating job creation and economic growth. Thailand's airports, managed by Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT), are projected to handle 130 million passengers from October 2023 to September 2024, closely matching pre-pandemic figures in 2019.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) echoes this positive outlook, forecasting a full aviation industry recovery in 2024, with estimated numbers rising to 162 million passengers—around 88.62 million international and 74.05 million domestic travelers.
Despite this growth, the aviation sector still struggles to meet burgeoning demand. AOT is fast-tracking the approval process for airline expansions, while regulatory reforms are considered to simplify fleet acquisitions to accommodate the inflow of passengers.
