Proposal to Increase Minimum Wage to 400 Baht Expected to Reach Cabinet
Labour Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn Plans Submission for November Meeting
Thailand's Labour Minister, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, intends to present a proposal increasing the minimum wage to 400 baht per day to the Cabinet on November 12, 2023.
Coordination with Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira and the Ministry of Finance is underway to meet this deadline.
However, Phiphat expresses concern about possible delays and plans to seek Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra's approval to prioritize the proposal if necessary.
A meeting with the tripartite boards to finalize the decision is anticipated by the end of November, contingent on the confirmation of all 15 committee members.
If not feasible by November's end, the meeting will be scheduled for early December and would require a quorum of at least two-thirds of the committee.
Successful completion of the meeting will lead to the announcement of the new wage rate in 67 provinces, including Bangkok.
Phiphat apologizes for the delay from the initial October 1 target, citing technical issues and expresses hopes to offer this wage increase as a New Year’s gift to workers.
