Shrewsbury Bangkok City Campus Observes Pride Month with Diverse Celebrations
The school hosts a Speech Day and various activities promoting diversity, inclusion, and student engagement.
Shrewsbury Bangkok City Campus recognized Pride Month, designating it as the “Month of Love,” with a series of events aimed at promoting diversity, equality, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ).
A notable highlight was the school's Speech Day, which featured guest speaker Ms. Dolores Cogliano, an advocate for diversity and inclusion based in New York City.
In her address, Ms. Cogliano drew from her personal experiences of overcoming rejection and emphasized the importance of celebrating differences, stating, “Being different is not something to hide — it's something to celebrate.”
During the DEIJ Week, students from various year groups engaged in a number of activities designed to foster understanding and empathy.
Older students took part in reading inclusive stories to younger classmates, aiming to promote mutual respect and awareness.
Workshops that focused on neurodiversity further facilitated discussions on the unique ways different brains function, encouraging compassion among the student body.
The DEIJ Assembly showcased the campus's cultural diversity through performances, including traditional Thai and Chinese dances.
This event aimed to honor and celebrate the rich backgrounds of the student population.
Following the assembly, the school community united for a high-energy Zumba session, which aimed to strengthen social ties through movement and music.
The school’s anthem, “The Power in Me,” was integral to these celebrations, acting as a unifying force for students.
The lyrics promote self-belief and communal strength, encapsulating the spirit of the events with the refrain:
_I’ve got the power in me, you’ve got the power in you._
_I’ve got the power, p-p-power, got the power in me!_
The initiatives taken during the “Month of Love” served not only as a celebration of diversity but also as a reminder of the importance of fostering an inclusive environment for developing understanding and kindness among students.
