TAT Plans Tourism Schemes for Flood-Impacted Areas

The Tourism Authority of Thailand is addressing extensive flooding in northern and central provinces, including Chiang Rai, and plans to revive tourism through campaigns and promotional activities. Domestic flights to Chiang Rai's airport have been canceled, and influencer visits are planned to restore tourism confidence. New Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong is collaborating with TAT on strategies to boost high-season traffic and meet the 1 trillion baht revenue goal.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is actively monitoring the flooding situation across 27 provinces, including the northern and central regions, with plans to launch campaigns to boost tourism once the floods subside.

The northern province of Chiang Rai was particularly affected, leading to the cancellation of domestic flights to Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai airport.

TAT governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool stated that assistance is being provided to affected households, and a detailed impact assessment will follow the receding water levels.

The TAT plans to classify affected businesses into three categories based on their readiness to resume operations.

The agency is also preparing discount campaigns and influencer visits to restore tourism confidence.

According to Deputy Governor Somradee Chitchong, an influencer tour to Chiang Rai will kick off in early October to promote a trail running event.

Additional festivals and promotional activities are planned for other provinces like Nan and Phrae.

New Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong, who takes office on September 16, has begun discussing strategies with the TAT to boost high-season traffic.

Despite targeted domestic tourism exceeding 200 million trips, the revenue goal of 1 trillion baht will require further stimulus.
