Thailand Enters Official Summer Season as Temperatures Set to Climb to 43°C
Meteorological authorities warn of intense heat and isolated storms as the country transitions from cooler months.
Thailand will officially enter its summer season this Sunday, with the national meteorological authorities forecasting peak temperatures of up to 43 degrees Celsius in several parts of the country.
The announcement marks the formal transition from the cooler period into what is typically Thailand’s hottest time of year.
Forecasters said upper regions, including the North, Northeast and Central Plains, are likely to experience prolonged spells of extreme heat, particularly during late March and April.
Officials warned that temperatures could reach as high as 43 degrees Celsius in some inland provinces, driven by strengthening high-pressure systems and reduced rainfall.
While generally dry conditions are expected, isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds may develop in certain areas as heat builds during the afternoons.
Public health authorities have advised residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
Recommendations include staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities during peak midday hours and monitoring vulnerable groups such as the elderly, young children and outdoor workers.
Farmers and agricultural operators are also being encouraged to manage water resources carefully as evaporation rates increase.
Authorities said coordination with local agencies is under way to ensure preparedness for potential drought stress in susceptible regions.
Thailand’s summer season typically extends through May before the onset of the southwest monsoon.
Energy officials noted that electricity demand is expected to rise significantly as households and businesses increase air-conditioning use, with contingency planning in place to maintain grid stability.
As the country prepares for sustained high temperatures, meteorologists said ongoing updates will be issued to track heat intensity and any storm developments during the early weeks of the season.
