Plan to Transform Event Infrastructure and Attract Global Competitions
Thailand's Tourism and Sports Minister, Sorawong Thienthong, has unveiled plans to upgrade the nation's event venues to host global competitions and concerts.
The ministry will mediate between Chulalongkorn University and private companies to redevelop the National Stadium and Nimibutr Sports Building, aiming to transform it into a multifunction stadium managed by the private sector.
This effort is intended to position Thailand as a prime destination for international events.
The government is considering public-private investments, particularly in the Pathumwan district in Bangkok, to drive economic growth.
Current venues like Rajamangala National Stadium and Impact Muang Thong Thani do not meet modern demands.
Sorawong mentioned the possibility of hosting a Formula 1 race in Thailand by 2027, emphasizing its economic potential.
Discussions are underway regarding the race layout and venue, possibly as a night street race.
Additionally, the ministry is exploring hosting international events like 'Tomorrowland' and integrating them into a five-year tourism calendar with the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
