Autonomous Vehicles Accelerate in Thailand as Industry Readies for Technological Wave
Thailand’s transport and technology sectors mobilise around autonomous driving and advanced mobility solutions, signalling a shift toward future mobility ecosystems
Thailand is witnessing growing momentum in autonomous mobility initiatives as public and private actors prepare for a significant wave of advanced vehicle technologies.
Industry observers note that research infrastructure supporting connected and autonomous vehicles has expanded in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor, where high-level testing facilities for autonomous systems are being developed to support next-generation vehicle trials and innovation.
Technology officials describe these efforts as key to adding value to the nation’s automotive industry and bolstering its competitiveness in the global future-mobility market.
In recent months the international autonomous mobility landscape has intersected with Thai innovation efforts.
Tesla has expanded its “Robotaxi” autonomous ride-sharing service to Thailand as part of a broader global rollout, underscoring the country’s importance in the emerging autonomous vehicle market.
This expansion places Thailand among the early adopters of advanced driverless technology services alongside other international markets where the service has been introduced.
Beyond road-based autonomy, Thailand is also advancing in aerial autonomy.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, in partnership with technology company EHang, has launched an advanced air mobility “sandbox” initiative that supports continuous trial operations of pilotless electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft in Bangkok and other cities.
These autonomous eVTOL demonstrations, conducted under regulated testing frameworks, showcase Thailand’s ambition to explore autonomous solutions for urban air transport and build a regulatory environment conducive to safe, future-oriented mobility systems.
Thailand’s broader automotive and mobility ecosystem is simultaneously undergoing a structural transformation.
Government policies to promote electric vehicle production and related technologies have driven growth in electrified and semi-autonomous transport segments, attracting substantial investment in infrastructure and regional manufacturing.
Stakeholders highlight that these national efforts, combined with global partnerships and evolving regulatory frameworks, position Thailand to participate actively in the next phase of autonomous and connected mobility across Southeast Asia.
