The Thai government is not planning to relocate Bangkok Port. Instead, the focus is on optimizing the existing port's 2,353-rai area, including potential housing, commercial projects, and an entertainment complex. A committee led by the Prime Minister will study these proposals further.
Deputy Transport Minister Manaporn Charoensri confirmed in a media briefing on Tuesday that the Thai government does not plan to relocate Bangkok Port.
The new focus is on optimizing the port's 2,353-rai (928-acre) area to enhance water transportation and logistics systems.
Initiatives include transforming underutilized spaces into housing and commercial projects as part of the Smart Port Development Plan.
The plans also feature the construction of mixed-use commercial areas, a stadium, and relocation of residents to high-rise buildings.
The proposed entertainment complex is one aspect of this broader vision.
Manaporn emphasized that the matter requires a comprehensive approach and anticipates the formation of a committee led by the Prime Minister to study the proposals transparently.
