New Emergency Cell Broadcast System to Launch Soon
The Digital Economy and Society Ministry will implement a new cell broadcast service system to send emergency weather warnings to all mobile devices in target areas. Testing starts in the first quarter of next year, with an official launch in the second quarter. This initiative follows severe floods in Northern Thailand and involves key agencies such as the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the Thai Meteorological Department.
The Digital Economy and Society (DES) Ministry has announced the implementation of a cell broadcast service (CBS) system to deliver emergency weather warnings across all mobile devices in a target area.
This new system is set for testing in the first quarter of next year, with an official launch in the second quarter, according to Digital Economy Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong.
The CBS allows for rapid and efficient communication of emergency information without needing phone numbers or additional applications.
The initiative comes after disastrous floods in Northern Thailand highlighted the need for improved emergency alerts.
Key agencies involved include the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), and mobile network providers.
