Thai Government Plans Crackdown on Foreign Businesses Using Thai Nominees
Measures to Curb Nominee Practices in Thailand
The Commerce Ministry of Thailand has outlined a strategy to curb foreign businesses that manipulate the system by using Thai nominees to operate unlawfully.
Deputy Commerce Minister Napintorn Srisunpang announced that a subcommittee dedicated to preventing nominee businesses convened with various governmental bodies to strategize enforcement actions against such companies.
Participants included representatives from the Department of Business Development (DBD), Department of Special Investigation, and several other major agencies.
The meeting resulted in a plan to take immediate legal action using current laws, develop monitoring systems to identify nominee usage, and propose amendments to legislation aimed at deterring illegal practices.
Mid-term efforts focus on building analytical tools to spot nominee behavior, with completion targeted within six months.
Long-term strategies involve revising laws to enable refusal or revocation of business registration for high-risk entities.
Recent controversies, such as a billboard offering foreign citizenship services, have intensified scrutiny and public interest.
The government views practice as detrimental to Thai businesses and the economy, prompting a rigorous response to protect statutory compliance.
