Thailand Enhances Emergency Communication with Cell Broadcast System
Successful testing of a new cell broadcast system paves the way for timely emergency notifications across the nation.
True Corporation, in collaboration with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES), conducted successful tests of a new Cell Broadcast system on Friday.
This initiative is aimed at strengthening emergency notification capabilities across Thailand.
The testing of the system follows a recent earthquake that struck the Mandalay region of Myanmar, registering a magnitude of 8.2 and affecting Bangkok and several provinces in Thailand on March 28. The earthquake resulted in damage to lives and property in both countries, underscoring the necessity for an effective communication system during emergencies.
During the Cell Broadcast testing, DDPM director-general Passakorn Bunyalak expressed confidence in the effectiveness of the system.
He stated, "I am very confident after participating in today’s Cell Broadcast test with True Corporation, which yielded the expected results, with the message being quickly distributed and covering the specified area." This statement highlights the system's capability to disseminate urgent information swiftly and reliably.
The Cell Broadcast system is designed to deliver critical messages directly to mobile devices within a defined geographical area, thereby ensuring that the public receives timely alerts about emergencies, including natural disasters.
The introduction of this technology is a strategic move to enhance public safety and improve response efforts during crises.
Authorities are hopeful that the implementation of the Cell Broadcast system will significantly improve emergency preparedness and response across Thailand, aiding in the mitigation of risks associated with natural disasters.
