Thailand is progressing with plans to legalize casinos to boost tourism and attract foreign investment. Draft rules for a 30-year casino license are open for public feedback, with options to renew for 10 years. Major industry players have shown interest, and locations could include Bangkok and Phuket. This initiative aims to raise billions in revenue for Thailand's crucial tourism sector.
Thailand is moving forward with plans to legalize casinos to enhance its tourism appeal and attract significant foreign investment.

The Council of State has published draft rules for an initial 30-year casino license, open for public feedback until August 18, 2024.

The licenses can be renewed for an additional 10 years and will be part of large entertainment complexes.

Major industry players like Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd and MGM Resorts International have shown interest in developing casino resorts in Thailand.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin supports the initiative to improve tourism revenue and ensure proper tax collection.

A study backed by Thailand's House of Representatives projects an increase of 12 billion baht in tourism revenue from legalizing casinos.

Possible locations for casinos include Greater Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Pattaya.

Tourism is vital to Thailand's economy, comprising about 12% of its $500 billion economy and generating 20% of total jobs.

Foreign arrivals hit over 20 million through July 2024, a 34% increase from the previous year.
