At the ASEAN Economic Outlook 2025, AWS's Jeff Johnson presented a vision for the digital transformation of the ASEAN region, known for its diverse and youthful population of over 670 million people.
With 61% of the population under 35, Johnson highlighted a digitally savvy demographic ready to drive economic growth.
He stated, 'ASEAN represents the fastest-growing internet population globally, with about 125,000 new users joining daily.' By 2030, the digital economy is expected to contribute over one trillion dollars to the region's GDP, guiding ASEAN to possibly become the world's fourth-largest economy.
AWS, which started its regional presence in 2010 with its first data-centre cluster in Singapore, has expanded to Jakarta, Malaysia, and plans to open a region in Bangkok by early 2025.
These regions consist of multiple 'availability zones' to ensure robust data protection and security.
AWS has committed significant investments in ASEAN, including 190 million dollars in Thailand by 2037, supporting local businesses in adopting cloud technology.
