Rescue operations and infrastructure assessments underway following a powerful 7.7 magnitude quake felt across the region.
A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Mandalay, Myanmar, on Friday afternoon, with tremors felt across Thailand, China, and Vietnam.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers at 1:20 PM local time and has led to significant consequences in Thailand's capital, Bangkok, and several other provinces.
The earthquake resulted in the collapse of a 30-storey government building in the Chatuchak area of Bangkok, leading to at least 10 confirmed deaths, 16 injuries, and 101 individuals reported missing at various construction sites within the city.
Rescue efforts initiated immediately following the quake have focused on locating those trapped and providing necessary aid.
In response to the crisis, Singha R-SA has been actively engaged in relief operations.
The company has supplied drinking water to rescue workers and medical teams at the site of the collapsed building.
Additionally, Singha R-SA visited Rajavithi Hospital, where they assisted in the evacuation of patients, providing drinking water for medical staff, patients, and their families after the hospital's water supply facility was damaged in the quake.
Transportation services in Bangkok have resumed following a temporary suspension, although many high-rise buildings are undergoing engineering checks to ensure safety before being reopened for business next week.
The earthquake's impact was not confined to Bangkok; it caused damage across a total of 11 provinces in Thailand, including Samut Sakhon, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phrae, Mae Hong Son, Lampang, Chai Nat, Lamphun, Loei, and Kamphaeng Phet.
This comprehensive damage assessment was reported by Pasakorn Boonyalak, director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.
Emergency services continue to focus on search and recovery efforts, while the government assesses the broader implications of the earthquake on regional safety and infrastructure.
