The Board of Investment (BoI) of Thailand is expediting a plan to boost investments in data centres and cloud services to align with global trends and the government's digital technology policies.
According to Narit Therdsteerasukdi, secretary-general of the BoI, these infrastructures are vital for supporting digital business and the nation's AI development goals.
Tech giants such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google, and Microsoft have shown interest in investing due to the government's supportive policies and attractive incentives.
The BoI has approved 37 project proposals worth 98.6 billion baht.
AWS announced a 200 billion baht investment in developing data centres, with an initial 25 billion baht allocated for three centres.
Other notable investments include Australian company NextDC with 13.7 billion baht and Singapore's STT GDC with 4.5 billion baht.
The BoI is also planning roadshows in Osaka and the Middle East to attract more foreign investment, especially in S-curve industries.
