Conflict in Lashio Unlikely to Send Refugees to Thailand, Says Security Agency
Thailand’s Naresuan Force states that a massive influx of refugees from Lashio is unlikely despite renewed conflict between Myanmar’s military and ethnic armies. Residents may temporarily leave but are expected to return. The route to Thailand is dangerous and long, while security agencies are monitoring the situation closely.
Thailand’s Naresuan Force, tasked with ensuring security at the Thai-Myanmar border, has stated that a massive influx of refugees from Lashio, the largest town in northern Shan State, is unlikely despite the new conflict between Myanmar’s military and ethnic armies.
Lashio residents may temporarily leave their homes but are expected to return once the situation stabilizes.
This statement came in response to social media posts showing large groups leaving Lashio, sparking concerns among Thai citizens.
The Naresuan Force emphasized that Lashio's residents have homes and businesses there, and that the route to the Thai border is dangerous and over 576 kilometers long.
Security agencies are closely monitoring the situation and have contingency plans in place for any potential refugee movements.
