Initiative Aims to Generate 100,000 Digital Talents
DES Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong points out that Thailand needs about 100,000 digital professionals each year, yet educational institutions only generate 25,000. To bridge this gap, the ministry has crafted immediate and long-term strategies.
In the short term, they are considering a global digital talent visa and a special category for temporary residents with outstanding digital skills. For the future, the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (Depa) is committed to promoting digital literacy for everyone.
This project aims to fortify infrastructure for coding education and expand the digital workforce, in line with the ministry's goals to boost digital human capital. Since 2018, Depa has been dedicated to improving coding skills among the youth and has been directed to escalate these efforts for fiscal 2023-2024.
The Coding for Better Life project underscores four main facets:
1. Establishing coding infrastructure in schools, with 1,500 targeted for involvement, supported by private sector collaboration to improve coding education.
2. Building a cadre of coding coaches by developing a robust curriculum and enhancing the teaching skills of at least 3,000 educators, set to benefit 300,000 students each year.
3. Introducing a coding challenge to promote skill development outside traditional classrooms, engaging teachers and students in advanced programming activities.
4. Increasing public awareness of coding, broadening the application of these skills in various fields.
Depa will deliver 20 specialized courses, using equipment such as computers and robotics, aiming to integrate resources with partners to elevate digital learning across the nation.
