Chinese National Apprehended Near Cambodia Border
Police in Thailand have arrested Demin Wen, a 35-year-old Chinese man, suspected of leading the country's largest call scam operation.
The arrest occurred near Cambodia in Ban Non Sao Ae village of tambon Phan Suek in Sa Kaeo's Aranyaprathet district.
Pol Maj Gen Montree Theskhan, commander of the Crime Suppression Division, announced that Wen is accused of using SIM boxes, SIM cards, and other equipment to facilitate the scam.
Raids on multiple rented houses in Chiang Mai province resulted in the seizure of 642 SIM boxes, 590,000 SIM cards, 72 computers, and 1,455 mobile phones.
Wen's Thai wife was arrested during these raids, allegedly overseeing the operations.
After evading capture initially, Demin Wen fled Chiang Mai to Nakhon Sawan, abandoned his vehicle, and traveled to Bangkok.
His escape was allegedly organized by his Chinese wife, Yin Xiaoying.
Yin was later apprehended at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Wen claimed ignorance of his wife’s arrest, stating he intended to visit Sa Kaeo’s Rong Kluea market.
