U.S. Imposes Tariffs on Solar Panels from Southeast Asia
New tariffs target imports from Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand
In a move to protect domestic solar manufacturing, U.S. trade officials have announced new tariffs on solar panel imports from Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand.
This decision follows complaints from American manufacturers that these countries are exporting excessively cheap solar panels, thereby undermining the U.S. market.
The tariffs are part of a broader trade case involving companies like South Korea's Hanwha Qcells and Arizona-based First Solar, with several smaller producers also advocating for protection of their significant investments in the U.S. solar industry.
The announcement comes after a related preliminary ruling earlier this year by President Joe Biden's Commerce Department.
