Major US Corporations Participate in Business Mission to Vietnam

Major US Corporations Participate in Business Mission to Vietnam

Key players from the tech, defense, and energy sectors to engage with Vietnamese officials amid trade discussions.
HANOI - Over 60 prominent US companies, including Boeing, Apple, Amazon, and General Electric, will participate in a significant business mission to Vietnam next week, reflecting an increasing interest in the Southeast Asian nation as it navigates potential trade challenges with the United States.

The annual event, organized by the US-Asean Business Council, occurs as Vietnam is revisiting its import duties on various US goods, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), agricultural products, and high-tech items.

The backdrop of this mission includes ongoing discussions regarding US tariffs that may be imposed on trading partners, which has raised concerns among companies operating in Vietnam.

Firms such as Intel, Coca-Cola, and Nike, which already have substantial operations in the country, will also be represented, indicating Vietnam's status as a key manufacturing hub.

Other participants, like Excelerate Energy—a company focusing on LNG terminal solutions—and GE Vernova, have recently engaged in preliminary agreements with Vietnamese companies to supply gas equipment, as noted by PetroVietnam Power, a state-owned energy corporation.

Vietnamese authorities have expressed a commitment to enhance imports of LNG products and services from the US as a strategy to address the trade surplus with the United States, reported at over $123 billion in 2024. During the mission, executives will meet with high-ranking Vietnamese leaders, including Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the General Secretary of the Communist Party, To Lam.

Concerns regarding the impact of potential tariffs on operations in Vietnam have been voiced by US corporations, which rely heavily on the country as a critical manufacturing locale.

Additionally, Exxon Mobil, associated with Vietnam’s largest undeveloped gas field, is part of the delegation.

Boeing continues to strengthen its relationship with Vietnamese airlines, currently involved in agreements to deliver up to 250 aircraft.

Discussions involving military equipment sales are also ongoing between Boeing, Bell Textron, and Vietnamese authorities.

The list of participating firms also features significant financial corporations such as JPMorgan, Visa, Mastercard, and Warburg Pincus, highlighting the extensive interest across various sectors in strengthening ties with Vietnam.
