Pratunam District Embarks on Major Redevelopment to Mirror Tokyo's Shinjuku
Bangkok's Pratunam area undergoes extensive transformation with infrastructure projects and private investments, aiming to become a premier retail and tourism hub.
Bangkok's Pratunam district is set to undergo significant redevelopment, drawing parallels to Tokyo's Shinjuku, as part of efforts to enhance its appeal as a retail and tourism destination.
This initiative is closely linked to the upcoming MRT Orange Line, which will feature a Pratunam station, thereby improving connectivity and accessibility.
The Orange Line, currently under construction, is expected to be fully operational by 2030, with the eastern section anticipated to open as early as 2028. The line will traverse key areas of Bangkok, linking the eastern and western parts of the city.
In preparation for the Orange Line's development, infrastructure adjustments are underway, including the planned demolition of certain overpasses in central Bangkok to accommodate the new transit route.
Concurrently, private enterprises are investing heavily in the Pratunam area.
Asset World Corp (AWC), a prominent property developer, has announced plans to transform the longstanding Pantip Plaza into a new wholesale trade hub, aiming to attract both local and international businesses.
This move reflects a broader trend of revitalizing traditional commercial spaces to meet contemporary market demands.
The convergence of public infrastructure projects and private sector investments underscores a concerted effort to rejuvenate Pratunam, positioning it as a dynamic center for commerce and tourism in Bangkok.
