During the TOPTHAI Cross-Border e-Commerce Day 2024 event, it was announced that Thai small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are collaborating with Amazon to enhance their capabilities in exporting to the US market.
The United States is a top e-commerce destination, generating US$1.1 trillion in 2023, with more than 65% of Thailand's micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) targeting this market.
Phusit Ratanakul Sereroengrit, DITP Director-General, and Anand Palit, Head of Amazon Global Selling for Southeast Asia, emphasized the vital role of government-industry collaboration in boosting e-commerce export abilities.
As part of the collaboration, Amazon will join DITP’s roadshows across Thailand, educating local businesses about selling on its platform.
Amazon Global Selling (AGS) will support high-quality Thai brands through workshops on account management, product listing, shipping, and advertising.
TOPTHAI-supported brands like Tuff Sport and Wel-B have already seen success in the US market.
Furthermore, a recent study projects that Thai e-commerce exports will grow from 29.5 billion Baht to 313.8 billion Baht in five years, highlighting the importance of e-commerce for MSME exports.
Challenges such as high logistics costs, regulatory hurdles, and knowledge gaps remain, but public-private partnerships and improved logistics can mitigate these issues.
AGS aims to enable thousands of Thai sellers to compete globally, leveraging Amazon's tools and infrastructure to lower entry barriers.
