Thaicom Successfully Secures 50.5°E Orbital Slot for Thailand
THAICOM-9A to Enhance Regional Satellite Services
Thaicom has confirmed that the THAICOM-9A satellite has arrived at the 50.5 degrees East orbital slot as of November 22, 2024.
This move is part of Thaicom’s effort to secure Thailand's rights to this orbital slot, which expire on November 27, 2024.
TC Space Connect Company Limited, a subsidiary of Thaicom, was awarded the 50.5 degrees East orbital slot for 20 years by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).
Due to time constraints in building a new satellite, Thaicom partnered with an international company to acquire and relocate an existing satellite to the designated slot.
As a result, THAICOM-9A will commence operations in early 2025, providing service coverage across Europe and Asia, including Thailand, and aiming to expand into Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
Patompob (Nile) Suwansiri, CEO of Thaicom, highlighted that securing the orbital slot will enhance Thailand's competitive edge and support the growth of its space industry.
