Frequent Accidents on Rama II Road Highlight Safety Concerns
Over 2,500 Accidents Reported From 2018 to 2023
Rama II Road, known as the 'Endless Construction Road,' has been a hotspot for traffic accidents over the years.
Serving as a crucial corridor to southern Thailand, the road has undergone continuous construction for over 50 years, aimed at alleviating severe traffic congestion.
Between 2018 and April 2023, there were 2,504 accidents reported on Rama II Road, also known as Highway No. 35, stretching from Dao Khanong to Wang Manao.
These incidents resulted in 142 fatalities and 1,441 injuries.
Annual statistics from the Department of Highways reveal: in 2018 there were 491 accidents, resulting in 38 fatalities and 268 injuries; in 2019, there were 415 accidents, 23 fatalities, and 275 injuries; in 2020, 406 accidents resulted in 20 fatalities and 277 injuries; in 2021, 234 accidents led to 21 fatalities and 116 injuries; in 2022, there were 434 accidents with 16 fatalities and 229 injuries; and in the first four months of 2023, 262 accidents caused 12 fatalities and 138 injuries.
