Thailand has launched a new international initiative aimed at combating online scams, positioning itself at the forefront of regional and global efforts to curb the rapidly expanding threat of digital fraud.

The initiative was unveiled at a high-level conference in Bangkok that brought together representatives from governments, law enforcement agencies, financial institutions, and technology companies to strengthen cross-border cooperation and intelligence sharing.

The conference highlighted the growing sophistication of online scam networks, which often operate across multiple jurisdictions and exploit digital platforms, payment systems, and telecommunications infrastructure.

Thai authorities outlined a coordinated framework focused on prevention, rapid response, and enforcement, including real-time information exchange, joint investigations, and closer collaboration with private-sector platforms to disrupt scam operations before they cause harm.

Senior officials emphasised Thailand’s determination to protect citizens, businesses, and tourists from financial crime while reinforcing trust in the country’s digital economy.

Measures discussed included tighter oversight of mule accounts, enhanced verification standards for digital services, and improved support mechanisms for victims.

The initiative also aims to align regulatory standards among participating countries, making it harder for criminal groups to exploit legal and technological gaps.

Participants welcomed Thailand’s leadership in convening the conference and launching the initiative, noting that online scams have become a shared challenge requiring collective solutions.

By fostering sustained international coordination and leveraging both public and private expertise, Thailand is seeking to deliver tangible results against cyber-enabled fraud and reinforce regional stability in the digital sphere.
