Thailand’s Tourism Authority Sets Ambitious 36.7 Million Visitor and 2.78 Trillion Baht Revenue Targets for 2026
TAT unveils strategies and events to bolster international arrivals and tourism receipts amid global economic uncertainties
Thailand’s Tourism Authority (TAT) has set ambitious targets for 2026, aiming to attract approximately 36.7 million foreign visitors and generate about 2.78 trillion baht in tourism revenue as part of a broader plan to revitalise the sector and strengthen its contribution to the national economy.
The projections mark a notable increase in both international arrivals and receipts compared with expectations for 2025, reflecting boosted confidence in demand and a concerted effort by authorities and industry stakeholders to elevate Thailand’s status in the global travel market.
The TAT governor said the strategy aims to “win back” tourists by enhancing safety measures, creating memorable experiences and promoting key destinations through a series of high-profile events.
These include nationally coordinated countdown celebrations during the New Year period across southern Thailand and expanded international marketing campaigns featuring global ambassadors.
The agency has also unveiled large-scale themed festivals and niche attractions designed to appeal to diverse visitor segments and stimulate spending throughout the year.
Under the 2026 plan, short-haul markets such as Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea are expected to contribute the majority of arrivals, while long-haul markets including Europe, the Middle East and the Americas are seen as growth engines for revenue through higher per-capita spending.
TAT officials noted that approximately seventy percent of projected foreign visitor numbers are expected from the short-haul region, with the remaining thirty percent coming from long-haul travellers.
In concert with international efforts, domestic tourism remains a key pillar of the overall strategy, with events and campaigns designed to encourage continued local travel, enhance regional dispersal and support small and medium enterprises across the country.
TAT’s revenue forecast of 2.78 trillion baht for 2026 represents a seven percent increase from the estimated 2.6 trillion baht in 2025, underscoring Thailand’s ongoing recovery momentum in the wake of continued global competition and travel market volatility.
TAT’s integrated approach combines targeted marketing, experiential offerings and safety enhancements to reinforce Thailand’s appeal as both a leisure and cultural destination while supporting sustainable long-term growth in its tourism economy.
