Thai authorities deploy round-the-clock surveillance and force readiness after intelligence of increased Cambodian military presence near frontier
Thailand has reinforced security along its border with Cambodia with continuous 24/7 patrols and heightened force posture after reports of significant Cambodian troop movements and equipment close to frontier areas.
Thai security sources said multiple units have been placed on constant alert, monitoring suspicious activity and strengthening observation posts, amid broader regional concerns about cross-border tensions.
On February 4, Thai authorities confirmed that border guards and multi-agency units were posted round-the-clock to observe reported Cambodian military mobilisations near the boundary.
Forces were stationed in key areas to ensure vigilance in response to images circulating on social media showing what appeared to be dug trenches and access-roads near the Thai-Cambodian line.
Security officials described the measures as precautionary steps to reinforce frontier defence and reassure local communities.
Permanent patrols have been combined with enhanced joint intelligence coordination, with civilian and military assets tracking movements and positioning rapid response teams.
Local commanders emphasised that these deployments aim to deter unauthorised incursions and maintain stability, noting that peak surveillance covers both ground and observation outposts.
The intensification of patrols follows months of periodic tension along segments of the extensive Thailand-Cambodia border, in which both sides have at times reported troop shifts and minor clashes.
While neither Bangkok nor Phnom Penh has officially confirmed a fresh escalation this week, Thai authorities have maintained their force readiness and emphasised the need for constant monitoring.
Officials have urged residents in frontier districts to remain calm, follow official guidance and avoid unverified social media reports.
They reiterated that the updated security posture is defensive in nature and intended to protect sovereignty and local populations while diplomatic channels continue to address broader bilateral concerns.
Military experts noted that the sustained vigilance reflects ongoing sensitivities in the region, and that 24/7 patrol operations are consistent with Thailand’s standard practice during periods of perceived risk.
The government said it will continue to share relevant updates through official channels as the situation develops.
